The only compelling 2008 World Series matchup involving the Tampa Bay Rays (or at least one that won't have Fox television executives and baseball officials concerned about TV ratings) would have to have included the Cubs.
Something says if the Philadelphia Phillies can batter the Los Angeles Dodgers' pitchers (something that the Cubs were unable to do), the Cubs wouldn't have had much of a chance if they had reached the NLCS. Then again, the Cubs would have lasted longer than three games (OK, maybe only because it's a best-of-seven series, but still ...).
NFL games are too long. In the Bears' case Sunday, at least one second too many.
The fine folks at justonebadcentury.com report sales of their T-shirt have increased since the Cubs were swept by the Dodgers in the National League Division Series. Possibly because of the Cubbie with a teardrop. Plans for next season (for the Internet site, not the Cubs) call for a slight adjustment so that the T-shirt will read ''1908-2008 -- and counting.''

Random thoughts while wondering which team will be out of championship contention first -- the Cubs, White Sox or Bears:
Now that the Cubs are the National League Central champions for the second consecutive season, manager Lou Piniella can stop worrying about the team and its fans counting their chickens before they're hatched. Well, if the Cubs didn't win the division, they would be laying one of the biggest eggs since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Blackhawks standout Adam Burish didn't have a fighting chance against Bulls center Joakim Noah.
