Gasoline prices aren't the only ones plunging A plunge in gasoline prices and lower housing costs drove consumer prices in the Chicago area down 1 percent in October, the Labor Department said Wednesday. Metro & Tri-state Gay school dispute isn't over
A Humboldt Park minister charged Wednesday that top designers of a gay-friendly high school reneged on a "deal'' with clergymen to strip the gay focus from the school's mission and said "hundreds of ministers'' would oppose restoring the original plan, as some gay activists now demand.

Sports Frustrated Hester stumbles from swagger to stagger The surest sign Devin Hester doesn't have his edge as a return man can be found in opponents' game plans. They're kicking to him these days without fear of reprisal. Now Hester prepares to return to the scene of his national coming-out party in St. Louis.

Pain in Portland: Blazers blast Bulls by 42 points There are bad losses, really bad losses and embarrassing losses. The Bulls' 116-74 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at the Rose Garden falls into that last category. There wasn't anything competitive about this one as the Bulls never got started, immediately fell behind by double digits and never made a significant rally. Other than that, it was another fine circus trip performance.

Hawks' Johnson quite an addition The Blackhawks aren't into individual statistics. They're just trying to stay in playoff position as they enter Game 2 of their six-game trip tonight against the Dallas Stars. There's one individual stat that's intriguing, though. Defenseman Aaron Johnson, who didn't even make the season-opening roster, is tied for second in the NHL in plus/minus at plus-11. Only Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin (plus-17) rates higher.

Entertainment John Legend's new sound shows he's an 'Evolver' John Legend is that rare R&B/pop star whose success is measured in album and ticket sales rather than airplay. “I haven’t been a big singles artist, but when I do concerts, the people who buy my album want to hear all the tracks that never got played on the radio,” he says. “So we try to give them as much as we can in the show,” like his Chicago performances tonight at Friday.

Business Detroit's Big Three rescue continues to stall A Democratic Congress, unwilling or unable to approve a $25 billion bailout for Detroit's Big Three, appears ready to punt the automakers' fate to a lame-duck Republican president. Caught in the middle of a who-blinks-first standoff are legions of manufacturing firms and auto dealers -- and millions of Americans' jobs -- after Senate Democrats canceled a showdown vote that had been expected Thursday. President George W. Bush has ''no appetite'' to act on his own.
