There's trouble in Podmajersky-ville -- and it smells like grilled onions. Neighbors in East Pilsen want to stop what they consider an unsavory business from opening at 18th and Halsted. The owner of Express Grill, one of the original Maxwell Street hot dog joints that's now near Roosevelt and Union, plans to put a 24-hour in the heart of the increasingly artsy neighborhood.

West Lake View neighbors cringed at the new paint job on The Ashland, a corner tap where not too long ago you could find guys snorting crystal meth in the bathroom. The whitewashed brick tavern at Ashland and Wolfram had been easy to ignore until new owners Adam Schenck and Chris Burkett commissioned local artists to wrap the exterior in a graffiti-style mural of colorful, random urban art.
